Business and human rights in Tunisia: the first step taken by the UNDP

There can be no economic and social development without dignity and respect for human rights. Indeed, business activities are a double-edged sword, capable of both positive and negative impacts on the enjoyment of human rights. In reality, businesses can and do violate human rights when they fail to adequately consider this risk.

To this end, the United Nations Development Programme, through its Business and Human Rights Project Initiation Plan (PIP), implemented within the framework of the global rule of law program and funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, took the first step towards action on Business and Human Rights (B+HR) in Tunisia.

The PIP (implemented between July 2020 and December 2021) had the overall objective of promoting respect for human rights in the value chains of economic sectors: the fishing industry and related activities in the governorate of Medenine.
